--A small twentieth-century selection has been started.
--A small selection of nineteenth-century American prose has been started.
--The table of contents has been modified to distinguish British and American selections.
--I have reorganized the table of contents and the packets so that texts appear in chronological order (with the usual warnings about uncertain dates of composition and/or publication etc.).

Added: WILLIAM BYRD (early 18th century)--an extra (concluding) paragraph.
